Class Description
This intermediate to advanced level course has been designed to enhance the clinician’s skills in effectively palpating (intra/extraorally), assessing and treating biomechanical and soft tissue dysfunctions of the TMJ, ligamentous and vascular structures of the cervical spine as they relate to the TMJ. This course will include an optional comprehensive exam, offering the clinician eligibility towards certification in line of the orthopedic manual therapy courses.
Course Objectives
This 2-day course is designed to offer hands-on experience and to help the clinician gain expertise by learning how to:
- Identify, evaluate and treat the biomechanics of jaw motion s/p injury.
- Identify the ligamentous and vascular integrity of the cervical spine as related to TMJ dysfunction s/p injury.
- Evaluate & treat the muscles of the TMJ(extra/intraorally) using manual therapy techniques s/p injury.
- Evaluate & treat the cervical spine in Type I vs.Type II motion s/p injury.
- Design and implement a strengthening and stabilizing program of the TMJ to proactively reduce injury/re-injury.
Target Audience: PTs, PTAs, OTs, COTAs, MTs, ATs and other health care professionals.
About the Instructor
Mathew Gardella, PT is the Program Director for Trinity Seminars as well as a Senior Instructor. He is a graduate of Quinnipiac University Physical Therapy Program and has been a senior therapist at Crossroads P.T. since 2001. Matt was Adjunct Professor for Quinnipiac University P.T. Master’s program 2000-2001 Matt served as Program Director for Crossroads Fitness Center and was a Columbia CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. Matt has had extensive post-graduate education/training in Manual Therapy.
