Class Description
This 2-day beginning to intermediate level course has been designed to teach the practitioner proper and effective evaluation techniques of structural abnormalities through the assessment of movement disorders of the pelvis and sacrum. The clinician will also gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of manual physical therapy, its principles and goals, as well as differences between indirect and direct modalities. Techniques for various biomechanical and soft tissue dysfunctions of the above-mentioned structures will enhance the clinician’s diagnostic and treatment skills for various diagnoses, including but not limited to, acute injuries and orthopedic conditions. This course will include an optional comprehensive exam, offering the clinician eligibility towards certification in line of the orthopedic manual therapy courses.

Course Objectives

This 2-day course is designed to offer hands-on experience and to help the clinician gain expertise by learning how to:

  1. Identify the goals of manual therapy.
  2. Describe the differences between indirect vs. direct modalities of manual therapy.
  3. Perform a 10-step screening exam in order to identify a hierarchy of somatic dysfunction.
  4. Evaluate and treat pelvic and lumbosacral spine dysfunctions, both mechanical and soft tissue, using manual therapy modalities,in acute/chronic injuries.
  5. Evaluate and treat sacral biomechanical and soft tissue dysfunctions using manual therapy modalities, in acute and chronic injuries.

Target Audience: PTs, PTAs, OTs, COTAs, MTs, ATs and other health care professionals.

About the Instructor
Mathew Gardella, PT is the Program Director for Trinity Seminars as well as a Senior Instructor. He is a graduate of Quinnipiac University Physical Therapy Program and has been a senior therapist at Crossroads P.T. since 2001. Matt was Adjunct Professor for Quinnipiac University P.T. Master’s program 2000-2001 Matt served as  Program Director for Crossroads Fitness Center and was a Columbia CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. Matt has had extensive post-graduate education/training in Manual Therapy.
