Class Description
This beginning to intermediate level course has been designed to teach the practitioner effective and efficient evaluation and treatment techniques for dysfunctions related to the cranio-cervical spine, cervical spine and sub-occipital region. The clinician will also gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of manual physical therapy, its principles and goals, as well as differences between indirect and direct modalities. Assessment and treatment techniques will address the ligamentous and vascular integrity of the c/c and cervical spine, as well as addressing biomechanical and soft tissue dysfunctions of the cervical sine relating to orthopedic injuries such as post-concussive syndrome. This course will include an optional comprehensive exam, offering the clinician eligibility towards certification inline of the orthopedic manual therapy courses.
Course Objectives
This 2-day course is designed to offer hands-on experience and to help the clinician gain expertise by learning how to:
- Identify the goals of manual therapy.
- Describe the differences between indirect vs. direct modalities of manual therapy.
- Identify the ligamentous and vascular integrity of the cervical spine as they relate to a post-concussive assessment.
- Perform appropriate tests/measures to identify the presence of a concussion s/p injury.
- Evaluate and treat the biomechanics of the cervical spine using manual therapy modalities, as related to post-concussive injury.
- Assess soft tissue dysfunctions of the sub-occipital region as they relate to cervical spine dysfunctions and post-concussive injury.
- Design and implement a strengthening and conditioning program of the cervical spine and sub-occipital region to proactively reduce injury/re-injury.
Target Audience: PTs, PTAs, OTs, COTAs, MTs, ATs and other health care professionals.
